First off, it is important to know that Arapahoe Credit Union will never ask you to verify your personal information (phone call, mail, text or email) such as account numbers, Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), Social Security numbers or other confidential information on any outgoing calls we make to our members.

If you believe you have responded to a fraudulent attempt, call the credit union immediately at

Most personal protection can be had through the use of questioning and common sense. If you can answer “yes” to any of the following questions, you could be involved in a FRAUD or about to be SCAMMED!

  • Is the CHECK from an item you sold on the Internet, such as a car, boat, jewelry, etc?
  • Is the amount of the CHECK more than the item’s selling price?
  • Did you receive the CHECK via overnight delivery service?
  • Is the CHECK connected to communicating with someone by email?
  • Is the CHECK drawn on a business or individual account that is different from the person buying your item or product?
  • Have you been informed that were the winner of a LOTTERY/ SWEEPSTAKES that you did not enter?
  • Have you been instructed to either “WIRE”, “SEND” OR “SHIP” MONEY, as soon as possible to a large U.S. city or to another country, such as Canada, England or Nigeria?
  • Are you receiving PAY or COMMISSION for facilitating money transfers through your account? Did you respond to an email asking you to CONFIRM, UPDATE or PROVIDE account information?

District Attorney Top Scams: The local DA has released a listing of top consumer complaints. Craigslist again tops the list with the most common problem being stolen rental deposits. "Vishing Scam:" (Via: NCUA) The National Credit Union Administration today warned consumers to beware of a new telephone fraud, known as a “vishing” scheme, that is using the agency’s name in an attempt to obtain personal financial information. Several credit union members have been contacted by an automated phone call claiming to be from NCUA and notifying consumers their debit cards have been compromised. The call then asks the receiver to follow prompts, which request personal information, including sensitive financial data and personal identification information.
